Every day, in offices, warehouses, classrooms, kitchens and building sites across the country, ordinary working people do something extraordinary: they save lives.
A colleague collapses at their desk. A customer starts choking. A teammate quietly reaches breaking point. In those moments, it’s the bravery to act and the first aid skills that make the difference.
The inaugural Lifesavers at Work Awards is a national celebration of the people who used their first aid training to help save a life, or change one, in the workplace.
Do you know a lifesaver at work?
Maybe they performed CPR in the staff canteen or recognised when a colleague was struggling and started a life-changing conversation. Whether they helped save a life or improved the outcome of a physical or mental health emergency, we want to hear about them.
Every life-saving moment is different. That's why our award categories are designed to recognise a wide range of actions. From first aiders at work to organisations creating a safer, more prepared workplace, explore our award categories below.
Recognises someone who has used their first aid skills to help save a life or significantly improve the outcome of an emergency in the workplace. This may involve supporting a colleague through a physical or mental health crisis. Nominees should demonstrate a commitment to maintaining their first aid skills and contribute to their workplace's emergency preparedness.
Recognises someone who has used their first aid skills outside the workplace to help save a life or improve the outcome of an emergency. This award celebrates those who step forward when needed and highlights how first aid skills can make a difference anywhere – from the daily commute and local community to social events and weekends away.
Recognises an organisation that has taken proactive steps to ensure employees are as prepared as possible to respond to an emergency.
This may include introducing new policies, expanding first aid training, or implementing initiatives that strengthen emergency preparedness. Evidence of a positive shift in workplace health and safety culture, supported by employees' testimonials, is encouraged.
Recognises a team within an organisation that has been instrumental in promoting first aid across the business, raising awareness of its importance and inspiring others to engage. This may be evidenced through increased participation in first aid training, the introduction or expansion of Mental Health First Aid Training, and a strong commitment to supporting
employee wellbeing.
Once entries close, every Lifesavers at Work nomination will be carefully reviewed by our judging panel. Judges will look for the impact of the nominee's actions, the first aid skills they used, and the story behind the moment, not polished writing. A heartfelt nomination beats a perfect one every time.
Finalists (and their nominators) will be contacted by email in early October and invited to join the Lifesavers at Work Awards ceremony in November. If you don't hear from us by mid-October, your entry hasn't been shortlisted this time.
