Course Description

This two-day course equips individuals with the knowledge and confidence to recognise signs of mental ill-health and provide initial support. Mental Health First Aiders play a vital role in creating a workplace culture that promotes wellbeing and reduces stigma.

Our Mental Health First Aid course teaches practical skills to start supportive conversations, guide individuals towards professional help, and respond effectively to mental health crises. Delegates will learn how to use a structured Mental Health Action Plan and develop active listening and empathy techniques.

This course is ideal for anyone who wants to champion mental health in the workplace. Upon completion, delegates receive a St John Ambulance certificate, with the option to achieve the nationally recognised Level 3 Award in Mental Health First Aid (RQF) through a separate assessment.

Course Requirements

  • Delegates must be 18 or over. Learners aged 16 or 17 may attend with written consent from a parent or guardian.
  • Delegates need a basic command of English (defined as Level 2).
  • Delegates must complete all modules.
  • Delegates must act in a professional and appropriate manner, in line with our HEART values.

This course is ideal for anyone who wants to gain a deeper understanding of mental health and develop the skills to support their own and others' wellbeing in the workplace. Whether you're a manager, team leader, HR professional, or simply passionate about creating a supportive work environment, this training will equip you with the confidence to make a real difference.

Important Considerations
This course focuses on mental health in the workplace and includes discussions on sensitive topics such as suicide and self-harm. While we create a safe and supportive learning environment, some people may find certain topics distressing.

Course Certification & Assessments

CERTIFICATE OF ATTENDANCE:
All delegates who complete the Mental Health First Aid training will receive a St John Ambulance certificate, recognising their participation in the course. To achieve the Level 3 Award in Mental Health First Aid, you must book the assessment separately.

LEVEL 3 QUALIFICATION (Optional Assessment)
For those who wish to achieve a formal qualification, the FutureQuals Level 3 Award in Mental Health First Aid (RQF) is available. To gain this qualification, delegates must:

  • Book and attend the Mental Health First Aid two-day course
  • Book the assessment separately (to be paid within 90 days of completing the course.)
  • Complete a computer-based assessment (within 28 days of receiving the exam link.)

The proctored exam is an assessment completed via the FutureQuals XAMS online platform in which the delegate's desktop activity, webcam video, and audio are recorded and then moderated before achievement is awarded. The recordings are held only to complete the required audit and deleted within 24 hours of the assessment.

The Level 3 qualification is valid for 3 years.
