The St John Ambulance HEART One semi-automatic defibrillator is a cutting-edge AED for adults and children, combining compactness, robustness, reliability, and affordability. Manufactured to be used by anyone in an emergency, the HEART One is suitable for use in the workplace, schools, community centres, or anywhere a reliable defibrillator is needed for laypeople.
Built as a semi-automatic model, this AED will tell the rescuer when a shock is required. Once this happens, all the rescuer needs to do is press a button to deliver a shock. This process allows more control for those who favour it, as opposed to a fully automatic AED. With easy operation overall, a power button is all it takes to activate the voice instructions, while LED lights within featured pictograms will indicate pad placement and CPR steps.
Designed as a truly mobile device, it only weighs 1.5kg, including its battery and pads, boasting a slim profile. Because of this, it can be carried in a backpack, fitted into a wall cabinet, or slipped into a carrying case. As an additional benefit, there is no need to have separate paediatric pads, which add on more weight when transporting.
To complement its portability, the HEART One works in tough conditions (IP55), resisting dust, water, as well as drops from 1.5 metres. Reliability is guaranteed in those critical moments, thanks to its daily self-testing capability. When you see the green flashing status light on the front, it means that everything is working as intended. A red light will indicate otherwise, accompanied by audible alerts.
Accompanied by a long-life lithium battery, this AED can deliver 200+ shocks, or work in standby for 5 years before needing a replacement. Even on a low battery reserve, there is enough power to provide at least 30 shocks or 2 hours of monitoring; ruling out the scenario of it suddenly cutting off in the middle of a rescue.
A true value-for-money defibrillator, the cost per day works out to £0.32 (excluding VAT). This is based on the 8-year warranty period (including two leap years) and covers an extra set of pads as well as a replacement battery that will be needed during that time.
