The Ferno Model 125 Kendrick Extrication Device (KED) is an emergency patient-handling device. It aids in the immobilisation and short transfer movement of patients with suspected spinal or cervical injuries. This includes auto accidents and those trapped in confined spaces, and specifically immobilises the torso, head and neck.
The two-part, wrap-around design provides horizontal flexibility for easy application, and vertical rigidity for maximum support during extrication. The Model 125 K.E.D. also adapts to a hip and pelvic splint by simple inversion. It can be used for multiple patient sizes, including children and pregnant women, so it is extremely versatile.
Another major feature is the use of colour-coded, sewn-in securing straps with snap-lock buckles that help to quickly secure patients. The device even offers built-in handles to enable a firm grip.
X-rays or advanced life support procedures can be performed with the KED in place, as adjustable, fold-back sides permit easy access to the patient's chest. The KED does not interfere with the application of anti-shock trousers.
