NEBOSH HSE Introduction to Incident Investigation eLearning

By the end of the course, learners will be able to:

• Independently investigate simple, non‑complex workplace incidents.
• Gather evidence using interviews, documentation and scene analysis.
• Identify immediate, root and underlying causes of incidents.
• Produce a clear, structured action plan to prevent recurrence.
• Contribute effectively to team‑based investigations for larger incidents.
• Improve overall organisational safety culture through better reporting and analysis.

This course is ideal for:

• Managers, supervisors and team leaders responsible for reporting or investigating incidents.
• SHE professionals, safety representatives and union safety reps.
• Anyone involved in workplace safety who wants to develop investigative skills.
• Organisations aiming to strengthen internal investigation processes and improve learning from incidents.

There are no formal entry requirements, making the course suitable for learners at any level. A basic understanding of workplace safety can be helpful but is not mandatory.

Learners complete a practical assessment lasting approximately one hour. This involves reviewing evidence such as witness interviews and producing an action plan based on the findings.

Upon successful completion of the assessment, learners receive the NEBOSH HSE Introduction to Incident Investigation Certificate. This certification demonstrates competence in conducting structured, effective incident investigations and is recognised across all industries.
