Course Description

This 3 hour course provides essential skills to use an automated external defibrillator (AED) and perform effective CPR. It is designed for anyone who wants to be prepared to act confidently in a cardiac emergency, whether at work or in the community.

Our Defibrillator & CPR Training course combines practical, hands-on instruction with expert guidance to build confidence in life-saving techniques. Delegates will learn how to recognise cardiac arrest, deliver CPR, and use a defibrillator safely and effectively.

This course is ideal for workplaces, community groups, and individuals committed to improving survival rates in cardiac emergencies. Upon completion, delegates receive a St John Ambulance certificate valid for three years.

Course Topics

The Automated External Defibrillation (AED) Course teaches the essential skills for using a defibrillator, and gives students the confidence to know what to do in an emergency.

Course content:

  • Chest pains
  • Communication and casualty care
  • Getting to know the defibrillator (any type)
  • Managing an emergency
  • Operating the defibrillator
  • Resuscitation (CPR)*
  • Role of the first aider
  • Treatment of an unresponsive casualty

Classic (Classroom) Learning

This learning style is entirely classroom based and requires you to attend in person with a group of other delegates. This benefits those who prefer interactive sessions with the opportunity to ask questions to the instructor.

Course Requirements

If you are interested in furthering your emergency first aid skills, or already take part in an organised first aid scheme, then this course would suit you.

If you are a health care worker, this course will serve as a basic module, and can be used to show annual CPD training in CPR and defibrillator use for your Primary Care Trust.

You do not need any previous first aid knowledge to attend a defibrillator course.

  • Delegates must be 18 or over.
  • Delegates need a basic command of English (defined as Level 2).
  • Delegates must complete all modules.
  • Delegates must act in a professional and appropriate manner, in line with our HEART values.

Course Certification & Assessments

CERTIFICATION
Delegates who successfully complete this Automated External Defibrillation (AED) Course will receive a St John Ambulance certificate of competence on completion of the course, valid for 3 years.

ASSESSMENT
Delegates will have continuous trainer observation during this course, and must demonstrate their understanding and competence on all course subjects.

Insurance included!

Our training includes 'Good Samaritan Insurance', giving delegates the confidence to help whenever and wherever it is needed. It covers them against claims arising from first aid they deliver outside of their workplace, club or association, and not covered by any other insurance.

To qualify, they must hold a current St John Ambulance certificate for this course. It is offered at no extra charge, as we are so confident in the standards of our first aid training delivery.
